We have moved onto a 17-acre piece of land that is in Western Oregon. It is situated in a rural area where we wont bother our neighbors with our drumming or ceremonies. It already has a 4 bedroom home, a nice shop, a small garden shed and a garage. It is at the end of a country road. There is a year around creek that runs through the property that is clean enough to drink out of if you should choose. With the planning assistance of a noted architect who has agreed to donate her time to work with us, we also plan to design the ceremonial grounds, animal and garden areas and public areas to fulfill the communities needs. A one-acre vegetable garden will be developed right away and expanded, as needed utilizing organic techniques and traditional values. The plan will involve construction of additional buildings, which include ceremonial lodges and a meeting lodge which utilize traditional construction methods as much as possible. Permanent residents and Traditional Elders will occupy year-round dwellings. Several small seasonal dwellings (traditional wickiups, canvas/wood yurts, and teepees for summer and autumn visitors) will also be constructed. An additional laundry, shower and toilet facility utilizing composting toilets will be constructed for the use of visitors. Pens, a barn, and silage storage will be constructed for the livestock. |
